Student visa
To obtain a Student visa in the UK, you must be 16 or older, have an unconditional offer from a licensed student sponsor, demonstrate sufficient funds to support yourself, prove your English language proficiency, and obtain necessary parental consent if under 18. You also need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference number from your university.
Detailed Eligibility and Requirements:
- Age and Course:
You must be 16 or over and accepted onto an eligible course (further or higher education, pre-sessional English, or a recognized foundation program) by a licensed student sponsor.
- Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS):
Your educational provider will provide you with a CAS reference number after they've offered you a place on the course.
- English Language Proficiency:
You need to prove your ability to speak, read, write, and understand English. This can be demonstrated through various means, including passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT), holding relevant UK qualifications, or providing a degree-level qualification taught in English.
- Financial Support:
You'll need to demonstrate you have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course. The amount required depends on where you'll be studying (London vs. outside London) and the duration of your studies.
- Parental Consent (if under 18):
If you are under 18, you'll need written consent from both parents or legal guardians for your visa application, living arrangements, and travel to the UK.
- Working Restrictions:
Student visa holders are generally allowed to work part-time during term time, with specific limits on the number of hours they can work per week.
- Immigration Health Charge:
You'll need to pay an Immigration Health Charge as part of your visa application.
- Biometrics:
You'll need to provide your biometrics (fingerprints and a photograph) as part of the application process
- Passport and Travel Document:
You must provide a valid passport or other travel document that establishes your identity and nationality.
- Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) Certificate:
Some programs of study require students to obtain an ATAS certificate before enrolling, which will also be needed for the visa application.
